Passion. Glory.
Quality. Excellence.
These, along with a host of others, are words normally used when describing the UP-CMC Broadcasting Association, the most in-your-face, aggressive, attitude-laden group in the College of Mass Communication.
Yes, they're that bunch of people who have laid claim to the front entrance of the building, the area known as the veranda, right in front of the parking lot, underneath the Plaridel Hall sign. The ones spread out on the steel black benches, talking and noisily joking around. Or gathered on the steps surrounding a guitar, loudly singing to the tune of any song they come across, the Song Hits book propped in front of them. Either way, you can't ignore them, even if you wanted to, even if you tried.
And try some people do. Love them, hate them, but you have to take notice. After all, they are the smallest, most exclusive organization in all of the College, so practically every member is widely known and recognized by name and face (and even some alumni years after still, by reputation).
If they haven't already made their presence felt by being one of the most outstanding, outspoken students in class, just keep an eye out for those people walking around wearing Broad Ass jackets, or Kiss My... and Asser shirts.
One look pretty much betrays those characteristics that can be found in any Asser—the worldly, the angas, the quiet intimidation. And they've earned every right to hold their heads slightly higher than everyone else's.
This largely stems from the widely known difficulty of their application, one of the most notorious and most feared in the university. Where many have tried, few have succeeded, and those who made it did so by overcoming great odds and proving themselves worthy. That is why only so few can call themselves so brave, and yet the small size of the org belies the quality and ambition of their events.
Concerts, fashion shows, productions, the Dulaang Kapiterya... You wouldn't think that such a small group would be capable of producing activities of such capacity. Yet somehow, they are able to pull it off leaving even the most seasoned veterans baffled at just how they did it.
Only through the 100% commitment and dedication of every single member and quality of work you can ensure each will deliver, you can be positive that in Broad Ass, people's potentials are maximized because every member works, and works their broad ass off.

The UP-CMC Broadcasting Association is a non-stock, non-profit student organization in the University of the Philippines Diliman, based in the College of Mass Communication. More popularly known as Broad Ass, the organization seeks to be the elite production outfit, providing the best hands-on training to future mass communicators.
Since its founding in 1968, Broad Ass has joined the ranks of the more prominent organizations in the university. It has produced some of the more illustrious names in the industry today.
To develop the members’ potential in the broadcast communication media.
To instill in the members' the moral, intellectual and ethical qualities and practices of the broadcasting profession.
To provide experience and opportunities in the field of broadcasting.
To generate among the members cooperation, unity, goodwill, self-confidence and sociability by serving as a medium of communication.
1968: The year that saw the birth of the UP-CMC Broadcasting Association.
When Kitchie Benedicto (1968) and Maria Montelibano (1968) founded this organization in the College of Mass Communication about four decades ago, it may have been unimaginable that their brainchild will grow up to be the very prestigious organization that it is now.
Gradually, and in some ways reluctantly, casually striving against resistance, Broad Ass has evolved dramatically, changing with time. But it has never been far from the spotlight.
During the tumultuous 70's, at the height of Martial Law, Broad Ass went radical. The Assers staged Dulaang Kapiterya, a series of plays fearlessly satirizing the political conditions of the times. They used the Mass Communication canteen as their theater.
The 80's ushered in the trend of concerts, parties, and fashion shows. Broad Ass was among the pioneers in the fusion of such concepts into one major event.
During the 90's, Broad Ass blazed the trail with creative, funky music videos. It was also during this decade that the Assers hosted the eagerly-awaited dating games during the UP Fair.
Today, reinforced by time, Broad Ass has never been more ardent in its commitment of developing the potential of students in the broadcast media. Broad Ass today stands up to the perennial demands of competence and creativity, tightly embracing the challenges of the times.
Broad Ass is the first organization to have its logo painted on the CMC Parking Lot. Then came the rest.
